Sustainability Statement
We are now the most formidable species on the planet and the only ones who can make a decision to change the way we make things, the way we use resources, the way we care for and about ourselves, our families, fellow humans and future generations. We can no longer just exploit nature for our well-being and dump our waste in the ocean, landfills and on the shores of poor countries. If we view the earth and its resources as expendable for short-term gains, we will end up degrading the environment and its resources for future generations.
We need a new framework and perspective that is inclusive and supportive of human and natural ecosystem relationships. We want the earth to continue to supply us with goods and services, so we must in return respect the natural processes that sustain life. Our dreams of progress must be sustainably designed and mutually inclusive of human relationships with the earth's natural resources.
It is important to frame sustainability in a context of “intergenerational equity,” which intends that each generation should steward the earth and its resources for the generations to come. This generation will not be able to solve all the issues of sustainability, but we can begin.
