Practice of Sustainable Design Spring 2013
The challenge for this course was to design a solar powered electrical vehicle charging station integrated into an urban neighborhood.
The design challenges and questions went beyond - "how do we do this?"
Expanding on systems thinking we incorporated a DNA for design by considering larger questions that addressed sustainability.
How do we commit to reducing fossil fuel use as an energy source?
How will an energy charging station integrate into a neighborhood?
How can you (the designer) incorporate benefits to the community such as --
a walkable neighborhood
alternative forms of transportation
green spaces
How can you choose the best production materials by understanding the life cycle of resource procurement, supply chain transportation and end of life recycling and/or recovery?
